Intelligent Environments

This line of research is related to the new paradigms of computing known as ambient intelligence and ubiquitous computing. An intelligent environment has a number of hardware devices embedded in it (sensors, actuators and user interfaces) interconnected by different communication networks. This infrastructure is managed by a middleware layer of software that allows users to be offered services and context-aware applications that have natural interfaces.

CTIC has experience in the design of natural user interfaces, middleware architecture design for the abstraction of devices or the use of artificial intelligence techniques for providing usage context-aware services and user personalised. These capabilities have been applied to projects in different areas and especially in the context of the digital home and eHealth.
