The goal of the Research, Development and Innovation Area (R&D and Innovation) is to make CTIC Foundation a scientific & technological international point of reference in the development of ICT in Asturias

R&D and Innovation strategy

The CTIC R&D and Innovation area contributes to the development of Information and Communication Technologies by:

• Encouraging forward-looking research lines.
• Collaborating with University research groups.
• Promoting Asturian companies’ participation in R&D and Innovation projects related to ICT.
• Contributing to the technological transfer between the R&D and Innovation public sector, the large regional, national and international companies and other Asturian companies.

Creating a resource of highly qualified scientists and professionals in order to increase the competitiveness, employment rate and benefit offered by the regional ICT sector.

The R&D and Innovation Area activities, inspired by the commitment of CTIC with Asturian society, are built around the principles of neutrality, transparency and complementarity and non-competition with ICT Regional sector.

All the R&D and Innovation Area staff is committed to the continuous improvement of its effectiveness. Therefore, and with the collaboration of all R&D and Innovation agents involved in our activities, we carry out a complete monitoring and measurement of our processes, projects and services to improve them and to secure a high level of achievement.

Technological specialization in R&D and Innovation

The high diversity and fast dynamics of ICT sector requires the specialization in Research, Development and Innovation activities. At present, CTIC Foundation focuses on three state of the art technological domains that are to have a great importance in the next few years:

• Semantic Web.
• Device Independence.
• 4U Line (universal access).

Later, other research lines will be included when evolution and resources of this Area allow us to do so. Nevertheless, CTIC Foundation does not rule out other specific research projects that could arise from other complementary lines.
