This initiative promotes the introduction of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in the commerce management processes. It aims to increase the participation of this sector in the Information Society by developing activities for the improvement of their position in their competitive environments.

Activities:

• Preparation of a study on the commerce sector situation regarding ICT use at national level. 
• Preparation of an ICT solutions catalogue applicable to the sector. 
•  Identification of success stories (cases). 
• Preparation of a dissemination video (solutions and success stories).
• Organization of the “1st National Workshop on Information and Communication Technologies Applied to the Commerce Sector”. 
• Preparation of a strategic plan to digitalize the sector. This will be the basis for the development of national and regional policies in this field for the next years.

Commerce workshop:

Asturias will host the “1st National Workshop on Information and Communication Technologies Applied to the Commerce Sector”. It will be held 28 and 29 November 2006 in the Silken Ciudad de Gijón Hotel.

Target groups:

Stores interested in increasing and optimizing ICT use within their business processes, as well as any person willing to know the latest news related with the technology. Attendance is free of charge.

Objective:

The workshop will be a meeting point between commerce, business associations’ representatives, companies’ suppliers of technological solutions and government. The workshop conclusions will be the basis for the preparation of a strategic plan for the development and improvement of commerce competitiveness by using ICT that will guide the design of national and regional policies on this matter for the next few years.

Program:

During the working sessions, professionals from the sector themselves will tell real-life experiences that will show how the introduction of these technologies meant important cost savings and quality improvement of their products and services. The matters that will be dealt with include optimization of sales to customers, internal management improvement, cost reduction via the Internet, potential market expansion and new payment systems.

Promoters:

This initiative, led by the Foundation for the Info Technological Development of Companies and Society (FUNDETEC) at national level, is developed under the action line of the Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Commerce, through the Directorate General of Information Society Development for the SMEs area, in the framework of the Avanza Plan, and it is one of the 10 ICT sector workshops that will be held in 2006, in collaboration with different regional governments.

The Regional Government of Asturias is the host of the national workshop on the commerce sector, which it has promoted. CTIC Foundadtion coordinates, organizes and carries out the activities.
