Aviles- Digital City

The Principality of Asturias Government has committed with the Asturian society to lead a strategic process to bring citizens, business or institutions the opportunity of taking part in the new Information Society. Following this initiative, a new Strategic Plan e-Asturias 2007 was developed, being the project "Digital Cities in Avilés and Carreño" part of this Plan.

Objective:

Avilés - Digital City is managed by CTIC Foundation. This project aims to foster the implementation and promotion of the Information Society in Avilés, through the creation of services and infrastructures as a complement to the technological development of this municipality. Avilés will be used as a model for the rest of the Asturian municipalities. This project will involve citizens, regional and local administration, local business and the harbours of Avilés and Gijón.

Actions:

• Infrastructures. Creation of public centres to facilitate access to Internet, equipment and connectivity funding for families, and wireless access areas in public places.
• Services. Citizens Platform for public participation based on 3D technology, Harbour administrative procedures at Avilés and Gijón Harbours, citizens' administrative procedures, and e-Commerce for SMEs.
• Training and dissemination. Digital literacy processes.
