Information and Communication Technologies (the Internet, intranet, e-mail, nets, e-exchange of data, information systems, etc.) have conditioned the way companies make business between them and have contributed to a remarkable improvement in the relationship with customers, suppliers and administrations.

The Industry and Employment Regional Ministry was aware of the need to implement a program aimed to the self-employed target group of the Principality of Asturias, with the objective of making them familiar with and enhancing the use of Information and Communication Technologies in their management processes, organization, production and relations with customers.

Indicators on ICT use by the self-employed target group show a situation that justifies the implementation of public programs to tackle the problem.
In this sense, the Industry and Employment Regional Ministry promotes the Innovation Plan on Information and Communication Technologies for the Self-Employed (PIATIC), whose priorities are:

• Disseminating the competitive advantage of ICT introduction in the self-employed business activities. 
• Qualification on computer tools use.
• Integrating Information and Communication Technologies in the self-employed business management and increasing their presence in the Internet. 
• Enhancing and stimulating ICT introduction among self-employed and helping them join the Information Society.
• Promoting access to the Internet, purchases of computer equipment, connectivity and presence in the Internet through web pages.
