ARTIC strengthened the technological capabilities of the Centros de Desarrollo Artesanal (CEDART) of Nahuizalco, Ilobasco, and La Palma, in El Salvador, by integrating training, technical support, and mentoring services for the adoption of ICT in small craft businesses.

The project responded to the need of El Salvador's craft sector to adopt ICT to gain competitiveness in a global market that threatened the production and marketing of its products. In each of the three identified craft development areas, CONAMYPE has a CEDART, a training and meeting space for the craft community that had been active for almost a decade.

The objectives of the project were:

  • To create an informal collaboration network between the Centros de Desarrollo de las Mype (CDMYPE) and the CEDART, seeking synergies that would improve the effectiveness of their actions in the territory.
  • To train, support, and evaluate a group of consultants to develop technology advisory activities aimed at craftspeople.
  • To organize technology sessions for craftspeople, with the participation of the CEDART and CDMYPE in the territory.
  • To disseminate and capitalize on the results in order to promote ICT integration policies that would improve the competitiveness of the craft sector.

CTIC carried out the project with funding from the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation, the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, and the Government of Finland.
