COMPITEM2 developed technology solutions to increase the flexibility and automation of the production cycle of metalworking companies that manufacture large metal parts, a process that until then depended heavily on human labor, with the resulting low profitability and risks to worker safety. The project focused its machine vision solutions on two stages of the production cycle, the creation of raw material and the final manufacture of the product, to improve the location and tracking of people, objects, and parts on the shop floor.

COMPITEM2 aimed to achieve flexibility and automation in the production cycle of the metalworking sector in order to improve the competitiveness of its companies, incorporating technology solutions in specific manufacturing stages that would transform industrial plants into more dynamic environments, optimizing material and human resources and paying special attention to worker safety.

The project's objectives were:

  • To develop machine vision technology solutions for locating and tracking objects and people on the shop floor, improving layouts and energizing manufacturing processes.
  • To develop machine vision techniques for the precise, autonomous location and positioning of the manufacturing process around the part (machine-part).
  • To focus the solutions on the raw material creation and final product manufacturing stages of the metalworking sector's production cycle.

The core areas of COMPITEM2 were:

  • Location and positioning of objects and people: machine vision solutions for tracking materials, tools, manufacturing systems, and people, reducing the costs associated with movement on the shop floor.
  • Machine-part location and positioning: machine vision techniques that made it possible to position the manufacturing process around the part precisely and autonomously.

CTIC's participation focused on developing the machine vision solutions for locating and tracking people, objects, and parts on the shop floor, within the consortium formed together with IDESA Fabrication, ArcelorMittal, and the Fundación PRODINTEC.
