DeSICA defined and designed a cognitive stimulation platform for patients with Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia that took advantage of the potential of digital terrestrial television (DTT), allowing patients to access this non-pharmacological therapy from their own homes. The project applied user-centered design methodologies to adapt cognitive stimulation interfaces and content to interactive TV, with the aim of slowing the progression of the disease and improving patients' quality of life.

DeSICA aimed to define and design a cognitive stimulation platform for patients with Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia that would take advantage of the potential of digital terrestrial television (DTT), giving patients access to this non-pharmacological therapy from their own homes.

The project's objectives were:

  • To define the requirements of a software platform for managing cognitive stimulation activities personalized to each patient's profile.
  • To design new TV-based interfaces, applying user-centered design and user experience evaluation methodologies, to ensure the best possible acceptance by end users.
  • To adapt specific cognitive stimulation content to interactive TV.

The core areas of DeSICA were:

  • Cognitive stimulation platform: software for managing activities personalized to each patient's profile.
  • TV-based interfaces: user-centered design, adapted to the abilities of Alzheimer's patients.
  • Adaptation of content to interactive TV: development of cognitive stimulation activities accessible through DTT.

These activities slow the progression of the disease and improve patients' quality of life, allowing them to spend more time at home and to postpone their dependence on family members or caregivers.

CTIC's participation focused on the technological development of the platform on digital terrestrial television, within the consortium formed together with CARTIF and Innovaciones Sociosanitarias.
