e-Asturias placed the region in an optimal position to take advantage of the economic and social development potential of the information society. CTIC drew up the e-Asturias 2007 and e-Asturias 2012 strategies and carried out a broad set of measures for their implementation and monitoring.

The project responded to the need to give the Principality of Asturias its own information society strategy, based on innovation and productivity, social justice, and equal opportunities, which would allow it to converge with Europe in this area.

The project's objectives were:

  • To carry out a diagnosis of the state of the information society in the region and define its strategic lines and development measures.
  • To monitor and evaluate the public policies and projects carried out under the e-Asturias 2007 and e-Asturias 2012 strategies.
  • To promote informal networks and cooperation links between people and institutions of the Principality and third parties.

e-Asturias was structured around the following areas:

  • Strategic planning: drafting of the e-Asturias 2007 and e-Asturias 2012 strategies, and launch of measures for convergence with Europe.
  • Digital inclusion: measures to facilitate full participation in the information society by the groups most digitally excluded.
  • Social and territorial innovation: models of territorial intervention and social innovation with ICT based on open innovation.
  • Training and promotion: technology training, outreach, and promotion of the advanced use of ICT among the population and businesses, as well as of creativity and scientific and technical vocations.
  • E-government and free software: promotion of e-government, open government, the incorporation of ICT in education, and the use of free software in public administration.
  • Knowledge: Documentation Center and Information Society Observatory, with socioeconomic studies and monitoring of indicators.

CTIC carried out the project with funding from the Government of the Principality of Asturias.
