TAW Monitor reviews the level and evolution of accessibility of websites in production, ensuring that it does not degrade over time as new pages and content are added or the development changes, in line with the obligations of Royal Decree 1112/2018, which transposes Directive (EU) 2016/2102. The service is part of the TAW family, the set of accessibility validation tools developed by CTIC since 2004, whose free analyzer tawdis.net is the most widely used by the Spanish-speaking web community.

Royal Decree 1112/2018, which transposes Directive (EU) 2016/2102, requires public sector websites and mobile applications, those funded with public money, and those of companies considered to be of special economic relevance to meet accessibility requirements, in accordance with the WCAG 2.1 level AA standard. Meeting that obligation at a given moment does not guarantee maintaining it: every new page, every piece of published content, and every change in the development can introduce accessibility problems into a portal that was already compliant. TAW Monitor responds to that need for continuous oversight.

The objectives of the service are:

  • Ensure that websites do not degrade their accessibility level over time.
  • Keep managers and technical staff informed of any incident affecting the accessibility status of their portals.
  • Enable accessibility management of all of an organization's portals, regardless of how many there are.

The areas around which TAW Monitor is structured are:

  • Periodic, unattended monitoring: once configured, the service reviews the portals automatically and recurrently, without requiring intervention.
  • Tiered dashboard: the information is presented in a clear, layered way, from the most general level, which shows the accessibility status of each portal (accessible, poorly accessible, or inaccessible) and its trend (improving, worsening, or stable), down to the most detailed level, which points out problems at the code level.
  • Regulatory compatibility: the analysis conforms to both the UNE-EN 301549 standard and the international WCAG guidelines of the W3C.

CTIC has developed and maintained the TAW family since 2004, a benchmark tool in the Spanish-speaking community for web accessibility validation. Within this family, tawdis.net is the free analyzer most widely used by the Spanish-speaking web community, designed for one-off analyses of a specific page or site, while TAW Monitor is aimed at the continuous monitoring of portals already in production.
